London has chosen Boris Johnson for mayor. A man whose idea of London life is to put up with it from Monday to Thursday and then escape to the country on the weekend. A man who has no respect for race or creed other than his own. A man who hides the fact he is an extreme right winger behind his bumbling media personality. A man who is complete snob who has no empathy with those who don't live the life of priviledge he does. A man who said he would bring change, but gave no indication how he intended to do it. A man who fully deserved the 6 full pages full of reason why London shouldn't vote for him in the Guardian on Thursday.
London how could you do it?
I know you wanted a change, I know there are many things that Ken has done wrong, and many of his practices seem dubious. But at least he cast his net wide and he is London through and through. When was the last time you saw Boris on a bus?
Perhaps if Ken had stood as an independent this year the result would have been different. He's been punished for the government's failings. People needed to show their disappointment and anger and desire for change. But Boris, come on!
I guess the only good thing is that he, and his Conservative Marketing Man Dave, will now be watched very closely. They've been given one of the biggest stages in this country. They will have to have policies. They have the opportunity to be judged on what they do, rather than what they say they are going to do. And hopefully with enough time for the rest of the country to be able to make an informed choice before a general election.
Perhaps it is time to move to Australia after all...

I can completely empathise with you. I remember the national election before the most recent, when John Howard won again, I felt so completely disillusioned. Both Geoff and I couldn't believe that our countrymen thought that bumbling fool was the best possible choice for our country, you feel completely let down. I found myself looking at friends and people I knew thinking "some of you must have voted for that fool"! As for moving to Australia - yes, absolutely, that's the straw that should decide it for you - come on over!
I know - it is so hideous I almost cried (can I move to Australia too? please?)
I can't believe you want to move to Australia! Madness.
Thatcher vanquished him once and he came back from the dead... Ken vill be back, you mark my words!!!
This was my recent tribute to him - clearly not many Londoners read my blog, otherwise they would not have voted for that stupidhead Boris: http://gervorama.blogspot.com/2008/03/on-one-hand-you-have-thom-yorke-one-of.html
