My name is Lindsay and I am an addict

"It's been several decades since my addiction took hold. It began with the rustle of Twinkle and has progressed to weighter tomes including Vogue, Elle Deco and Delicious. I have to admit to needing a weekly fix of TimeOut and Grazia to take the edge off. I have been even known to seek pleasures of exotic varieties sent under cover from overseas. My name is Lindsay and I am a magazine addict".

The return of Spring this week made me cast a critical eye around our home. Everywhere I saw the signs of winter fatigue, 3 people who've suffered coughs and colds and as winter comes to an end diminishing energies to keep things tidy. Lots of "I"ll just put this here and deal with it later". Cupboards which had to be forced shut, a desk which had no space to work from and bookshelves with books piled so high they were ready to tumble. So I used my Olive free time this week to undertake a purge, and the recycling bags above hold only a fraction of the results. There are bags that I have been taken to Oxfam, garments that have been passed on to new homes and paperwork that has finally been filed and sorted.

The house feels lighter, as do my spirits. I'm hopeful, optimistic and really looking forward to this summer. Our last one was tough, Olive was ill and the weather was mainly cold and rainy. This year we plan to make the most of it, with holidays booked, long weekends away planned and M taking as much time off as he can. I'm dreaming of sunny afternoons in the park, splashing in the Lido and playing chase through the trees.

I shall see you at the MA meetings then...I have suffered from the same problem. I realised though, that I often save a whole magazine for one article or for photo containing a small swatch of wallpaper that I like...so for this reason I have started a scrapbook where I can keep a record of these small, but useless points of interest...and oddly I stick things in it...but I never look in it for reference, which possibly highlights how very pointless the initial hoarding was.

Well done on spring cleaning - it does make one feel so much better! Your summer plans sound wonderful too. x

You can't throw away Time Out's, they're like reference material!

I have a hard time letting go of my magazines. I'm still working up the courage to! It is such a good feeling to lighten the load, though, isn't it?
