We're off to Adelaide soon and are starting to plan our trip. We want to do lots of fun things for Olive and, as we'll have babysitters to hand, once Olive has settled in, Matt and I would like to have a few dinners and drinks out. Has anyone been to Adelaide recently? Got any suggestions of places to go and things to do that would make a 3 year old happy? And some lovely places to eat and drink that would make two 30 something parents happy?
On our list so far we have:
Cleland Wildlife Park to cuddle koalas and feed kangaroos
Victor Harbour to see the fairie penguins hop out of the sea at dusk
Horseshoe Bay Port Eliot to have fun on the beach and lunch at the Flying Fish Cafe
Central Markets to buy lots of lovely food
I read about a place called Bistrodom which looked good for dinner
Visit to Maggie Beer's
We also need to fit in some Christmas shopping.

We spend summer holidays on the Fleurieu Peninsula - can recommend a few places for lunch which are a daytrip from Adelaide (and on the way to Victor Harbour etc). Eating lunch outside on the lawns at Coriole is divine and perfect for kids (http://www.coriole.com/i.cfm/180/). Star of Greece has stunning views over the beach (http://www.bestrestaurants.com.au/restaurants/SA-Adelaide-starofgreece.aspx). Pizza at Russell's in Willunga on a Friday or Saturday night is great fun and also great for kids (http://www.yourrestaurants.com.au/guide/?action=venue&venue_url=russells). Also Willunga has a great farmers market. Bridgewater Mill is pricey but so worth it - better without kids but possible to take them (http://www.bridgewatermill.com.au/#/restaurant/). These are off the top of my head - I might think of more... I love Adelaide, it's one place I could see myself living outside Melb. Hope you have a great trip!
Thanks Katie they all look fabulous and are exactly the sort of things we had in mind. Very excited now! I remember reading about Russells the last time we were there but it was closed. We're going to check all of these places out!

Lindsay - try this blog, she lives in Adelaide... don't forget to mention if you get to Melbourne.
So envious! Having swapped 5 acres in the Adelaide Hills for a patch of sand in Dubai, I'm green with envy.
If you're doing the Cleland thing, then maybe schedule it for late in the afternoon and finish off the day with a fabulous pizza at Jimmie's in Crafers. Will take you about 5 minutes from Cleland. Great wine, cosy atmosphere, kid friendly and the chilli and prosciutto pizza is magic (and along with a bottle of Rockford's Alicante Bouchet, directly responsible for our location swap!).
Shaw and Smith Winery in Balhannah is a great place for 1-2 hours of newspaper reading, whilst enjoying their wine and cheese tasting platter. You can't be in Adelaide and not try their Sauvignon Blanc. They have a huge lawn which is perfect to let the kids loose on.
If you can squeeze it in, then Kangaroo Island is the (slightly)unsung hero of South Australia. Two days would get you front row seats watching sea lions and seals play, climbing (and sliding down) mammoth sand hills in the 'Little Sahara', Remarkable Rocks are just that, and the coastline is stunning.
Enjoy!
Thank you Victoria and Stephanie!
We'd love to get to Kangaroo Island, but we don't have long enough this time, it will be on our list for our next trip though.
